Ahead of the 2023 general elections, some Nigerian celebrities are already endorsing Peter Obi, the Labour Party Presidential Candidate.
Obi, a former governor of Anambra State emerged the Labour Party flag bearer few days after quitting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which Presidential Primary election was alleged to be have been financially corrupted.
The former governor who is a Prudent Administrator is seen by many Nigerians as more suitable to govern the country after many years of misrule.
Among the Nigerian stars who have publicly declared for Obi are twin singing sensation, Peter and Paul Okoye of Psquare, Nollywood actors Chidi Mokeme and Okey Bakassi.
The entertainers with millions of followers on social media are also encouraging Nigerians to get their Permanent Voters Card (PVC) ahead of next year's election.
In a post on his Instagram page before Obi left the PDP, Peter Okoye had urged the party delegates to select the former Vice Presidential Candidate.
The singer who revealed that he usually don't engage in politics, said he’s making an exception for Obi because he is the most qualified.
The music star has also replaced his Twitter display picture with Peter Obi’s photo.
Peter's twin brother, Paul Okoye charged Nigerians to get their PVC and vote for Obi.
According to the singer, the failure to elect the right leader next year will lead Nigeria into “another eight years of backwardness."
Okey Bakassi, an actor and comedian, also took to his Instagram to drum up support for Peter Obi.
“I like the substance-based campaign he’s running; I admire his courage and principles," he wrote.
On his part, veteran actor Chidi Mokeme said, "2023 might be our last chance to save this sinking."
He added that this not the time for good people to be silence in Nigeria.
Before emerging as Labour Party's presidential candidate, former presidential adviser, Pat Utomi, Faduri Joseph and Olubusola Emmanuel-Tella, stepped down for Obi, making him a lone aspirant.
Obi's main challengers in the 2023 election are Atiku Abubakar of the PDP, whom he contested with in 2019 as his running mate, Rabiu Kwakwanso, a former governor of Kano State who is contesting under the platform of NNPP, and the in coming of candidate of the APC who are yet to hold primary election.
