Nigerians in London storm Abuja House, tell Buhari to return home

Some Nigerians living in London, United Kingdom, on Friday stormed the
Abuja House to protest against President Muhammadu Buhari’s medical trip to the country.

Abuja House, located at 2 Campden Hill, Kensington, London, is the official residence of visiting Nigerian President to the UK.

The protesters were led by Reno Omokri, a former presidential aide.
Omokri, in a series of tweets on Friday, said the protesters were at the Abuja House to harass Buhari out of London.

He lamented the inadequacies of Nigeria’s health sector and also criticised the president over the Lekki shooting during the #EndSARS protest in Lagos.

He also criticised Buhari over the rehabilitation of repentant Boko Haram insurgents.
Omokri said the police who came to the protest established that they had broken no laws and we were observing proper COVID-19 protocols.
Similarly, Omoyele Sowore, Sahara Reporters publisher and convener of the "Revolution Now Movement", posted a video of a man holding a placard that reads “Buhari must go! #OccupyNigeria”.

The man said: “Buhari go home! We are outside here in Abuja house. Nigerians are calling on Buhari to go home.

“Our people are suffering while you come to the UK and enjoy the benefits of taxpayers that you did not look after. Buhari, go home.”

Buhari has embarked on several trips to the UK to seek medical care since he assumed office.

In 2019, the president had lamented that Nigeria was losing about N400 billion to medical tourism annually.

He later said frequent medical trips abroad must stop because they are not beneficial to the country.

But despite this, on Tuesday, the president departed Nigeria for London for a medical check-up.

The trip is expected to last for two weeks.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had tackled Buhari over the recent trip, describing it as a ripple effect of his administration’s failure to fix Nigeria’s healthcare system.
