Boko Haram claims responsibility, shares video of missing military fighter jet, killed pilots

The Boko Haram terrorists has claimed responsibility for the missing Jet of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF).

The aircraft, NAF 475, deployed against the terror group in Borno state lost contact with radar on Wednesday evening.

Earlier on Friday, Edward Gabkwet, the NAF spokesperson, had said the whereabouts of the two flying officers piloting the jet was unknown.

“Intelligence report gathered by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) indicates that the Alpha Jet aircraft (NAF475) that went off the radar with 2 crew members on board on 31 March 2021 might have crashed,” he had said.

He gave the names of the missing pilots as John Abolarinwa and Ebiakpo Chapele.

He also added that extensive search-and-rescue efforts are ongoing by NAF surveillance aircraft, as well as air force special forces and Nigerian army troops on the ground.

But on Friday, Boko Haram released a video of the destroyed jet.

The video, which credible sources released to HumAngle, showed the corpse of one of the dead pilots.

in the video, the insurgents were seen engaging the jet, which is flying at low range, in a gunfight.

They were seen with machine guns, especially ones that appear to be anti-aircraft weapons.

As soon as the jet crashes, the Boko Haram fighters are seen moving to the debris, and then removing components from the jet.

The video showed that the aircraft exploded in the air before it crashed.

It is unclear if the crash was caused by the anti-aircraft gun it did not show in the video.

Towards the end of the footage, a masked Boko Haram fighter climbed a wreckage of the aircraft and pointed his gun into the sky.

“The Nigerian Air Force jet fighter with plate number 475 was sent to Sambisa to fight the Mujahideen.

“There’s no one that can fight God. This is the evidence of what God has done. There’s no way you will fight his people and this will not happen. The only way for you now is to repent. That’s the only way out,” he said in impeccable English.

The military is yet to react to the claim of the insurgents.

The alpha jet is a highly-advanced aircraft built for close-air support combat capabilities.
