Nigeria records over 1,900 fresh COVID infections - highest single-day record

As Nigeria and other countries battle the second wave of Coronavirus, the number of confirmed infections in the country has continued to rise.

On Thursday night, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reported almost 2,000 new cases of the disease across the country.

According to the NCDC, 1,964 fresh COVID-19 infections were confirmed across 23 states and the federal capital territory (FCT) on January 21, 2021.

Lagos topped the list with 824 fresh cases, followed by FCT with 246, and Plateau with 166.

However, while seven persons were confirmed to have died of COVID-19 complications on Thursday, 1,310 new recoveries were recorded across the country.

The latest figure is the highest single-day count since the outbreak of the Coronavirus in Nigeria.

116,655 cases of the disease have now been confirmed, 93,646 patients have however recovered and been discharged, while 1,485 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
