Onyeka Onwenu launches 'My Father’s Daughter’, her book on career, marriage, Nigerian civil war


Ace singer and actress, Onyeka Onwenu on Thursday launched her memoir, 'My Father’s Daughter’.

At the book launch held virtually, the 68-year-old songstress expressed delight that the project turned out to be a success.

Onwenu said the book, which spanned her personal life and the country’s socio-political landscape, can be accessed at Amazon, OkadaBooks  among others.

In her review, the book’s editor, Ngozi Osu, dubbed the literary work as a “story of life, love and living” which revealed different sides of the broadcaster cum politician.

“My father’s daughter is a riveting narration of Onyeka Onwenu’s entrailing journeys through life,” she said.

“This book is deeply personal and emotional, it is about strength of purpose in the face of adversities… Onyeka’s story is laced with wits. It is a story of life, love and living.”


Also speaking, media personality, Soni Irabor, said the autobiography, “the like of which has never before been written by a Nigerian”, properly contextualised Onwenu’s life and the various issues facing the country.

“I am My Father’s Daughter is a riveting story that tells all without being a kiss-and-tell. It opens a window of revelation on the hitherto untold story of Onyeka’s marriage and family life,” he said.

“It is at once a personal story and a contemporary history of Nigeria that critically analyses the Nigerian civil war, the hopes that propelled Biafra, and how the flame of the new republic was extinguished.

“This autobiography, the like of which has never before been written by a Nigerian, details personal tragedy and glorious triumphs, national political chicanery and their adverse consequences on the entity.
