Nigeria At 60: Protesters hit streets across the country on Independence Day

Protesters have trooped into the streets across Nigeria demanding an end to bad governance.

In Lagos, the RevolutionNow protesters marched from the streets of Ojota to Maryland, chanting songs of solidarity.

Nigeria marked 60 years of its independence from Britain on Thursday.

President Muhammadu Buhari had addressed the nation, defending the hike in the price of petrol.

The president said the price of the product is cheaper in Nigerian than in Saudi Arabia and Chad.

Some Nigerians had railed against the fuel price hike, demanding a return to status quo.

There has been rising insecurity in the country coupled with a parlous economy, fuelling citizens’ unrest.

Citizens are converging across the country to register their disaffection on a momentous day in the life of the nation.

Meanwhile, Punch Newspaper is reporting that no fewer than 30 RevolutionNow protesters have been arrested by security operatives in Lagos.
