Fake News Alert: DStv and GOtv was not hacked.. but all channels are opened for free


There has been reports on social media that DStv and GOtv has been hacked with all the channels showing for 100% free.

The reports claimed that the satellite TV platforms was hacked by "Anonymous" which had earlier hacked the Twitter handle of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).

"DSTV and GOTV have been hacked. All stations are opened whether you subscribe or not. Check yours out," one Twitter User wrote.

But TMZNaija findings shows the networks was not hacked.

Multichoice Nigeria, owners of DStv and GOtv, had on Saturday released a statement stating that the company are upgrading its system. 

The company said the upgrade will last from Saturday to Monday and all payments channels can't be accessed.

Multichoice basically opened all the channels for free till when the upgrade is concluded.


Multichoice also released another statement on Sunday debunking the rumours that it has been hacked.

"Kindly be informed that some of our disconnected GOtv/DStv decoders may have access to viewing because of the System Upgrade that we are currently undergoing," the statement read.

"However, this will discontinue immediately after the System Upgrade.

"Should you receive any rumour that DStv has been hacked, kindly disregard this.

"It is to serve our customers who may want to reconnect during this period better (since they will not be able to)."
