#EndSARS protesters in Rivers State dares Wike, match to government house

Rivers state residents on Tuesday held a massive rally against the brutality and extrajudicial killings of security operatives.

The state governor, Nyesom Wike on Monday banned all forms of protests in the state.

Governor specifically said all proposed protests by #EndSARS campaigners have been prohibited.

He explained that there was no need for any form of demonstration since the Inspector-General of Police, Adamu Mohammed, had disbanded the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Nigeria Police Force.

The governor had directed security personnel to arrest any person who staged any form of protest from Tuesday.

"Government took this decision because the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, had already scrapped the Special Anti-Robbery Squad,” he said.

“Therefore, there is no need for any form of protest against a Unit of the Police Force that no longer exists.

“Parents and guardians are therefore advised to ensure that their children or wards do not violate this order.

“Law enforcement agencies are also directed to ensure that the ban is enforced and that violators are brought to book.”

But on Tuesday, the protesters, including BBNaija star Tacha Akide, stormed the streets of Port Harcourt and matched towards the government house.

In videos postes online, the protesters can be heard chanting "Wike we dey come oh."

For over a week now, youths across the country have taken to the streets to protest against the brutality and extrajudicial killings of the operatives of the now-disbanded SARS.

Although the police unit has been dissolved, the protesters are demanding, amongst other things, a total overhaul of the police force and the release of all arrested protesters.
