Twitter Users taunt Desmond Elliott over godfatherism statement after Obaseki re-election

Some Nigerians have taken to Twitter to taunt actor and politician, Desmond Elliot, following the defeat of his party, APC, in the Edo state governorship election.

Governor Godwin Obaseki of the PDP flood Osagie Ize-Iyamu, a candidate of the APC the election conducted on Saturday.

During the campaign, Obaseki had said he will end political godfatherism, which he said was effective in Lagos but won’t be tolerated in Edo.

But Elliott had berated Obaseki for adopting “Edo no be Lagos” as his re-election mantra while describing his own political career as being a product of godfatherism.

Shortly after Obaseki was declared winner of Edo poll, a number of Nigerians took to Twitter to call out the Nollywood star, while reiterating their mostly condemnatory comments towards his support for godfatherism.

“Tell Desmond Elliot that, in Edo state, we retire godfathers,” one user wrote.

“Desmond Elliot ought to be ashamed of the foolishness he came out to display not long ago. With the whole #EdoNoBeLagos conversation,” another user wrote.

Below are some tweets from Nigerians.
