Obaseki celebrates victory, says lions of Edo politics has been caged

It was a carnival-like atmosphere when Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki hit the streets of Benin city on Monday.

Obaseki, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) defeated Osagie Ize-Iyamu, his All Progressives Congress (APC) rival in the Saturday's election.

The supporters proceeded to the government house where they joined the governor and his wife alongside his deputy, Philip Shaibu.

Obaseki, his wife and deputy as well as PDP leaders later drove through the streets as residents danced to the campaign theme songs.

While addressing the crowd at Kings Square, Obaseki said his victory at the election was an indication that the tigers and the lions in state politics have been permanently caged.

“The message of Saturday’s governorship election is that I should go and work for Edo people because Edo people have spoken loud and clear.

"You have helped me caged the lions and tigers in the State, you will never see them again in Edo because they are all in the zoo now where they belong," he said.

Obaseki will be sworn in for second term in November.
