Edo election: Obaseki in early lead after results from 13 LGAs

Governor Godwin Obaseki of the PDP has recorded more votes from the results of the 13 Local Governments declared in the Edo state governorship election.

Although 17 political parties participated in the Saturday's election, it is a two-way race between Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the APC and Obaseki of the PDP.

Obaseki was elected on APC’s platform in 2016 but defected to the PDP after being denied the ticket owing to intra-party squabbles.

The PDP has scored 240,935 while APC had 154, 192 votes from the results declared so far in the 13 LGAs by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Obaseki is leading Ize-Iyamu by a wide margin of over 80,000 votes.

The election held in 18 Local Government Areas, 192 Wards, and 2,627 polling units.

Five local governments’ results are still yet to be released.
