Nigerians on Twitter hit Atiku over silence on death sentence on Kano singer

Nigerians have taken to Twitter to query former vice president Atiku Abubakar over his silence on the death sentence on Kano singer, Yahaya Sharif

Sharif, a 22-year-old native of Sharifai in Kano, was sentenced to death by hanging on August 10, by an upper Sharia court for blasphemy.

The young singer was found guilty by the Sharia court of committing blasphemy in a song he circulated via WhatsApp in March, 2020..

The death sentence has caused outrage on social media with many calling for the verdict to be upturned.

The Kano state governor, Umar Ganduje, has said that he would not waste time to sign the death warrant on Sharif after 30 days.

However, Atiku who appears to comment on most topical issues has been silent on the sharia court ruling.

On Saturday, the former presidential candidate took to Twitter mourn the passing of Chadwick Boseman, the US "Black Panther" actor who died of colon cancer at the age of 43.
And some Nigerians have visited the microblogging platform to hit the former VP over his silence on the singer's death sentence, while some have accused the politician of being an Islamic extremist.
