Lala Akindoju asks Nigerian youths to give governance same energy accorded to BBNaija

Nollywood actress Kemi Lala Akindoju has urged Nigerian youths to pay attention to governance in the country the same way they follow Big Brother Naija reality TV show.

BBNaija, a popular reality TV show has continued to dominate discussions on social media platforms across Nigeria since it commenced on July 19.

But in a post on Twitter, the film star decried the fact that youths do not usually replicate such energy and interest when it comes to elections and issues bordering on nation building.

According to her, Nigeria will only make progress when citizens see the need to engage in socio-economic development of the nation

She also noted that the seeming apathy among youths for governance and electoral process poses danger to calls for good leadership in the country.

“I still wish we will take our elections and holding our leaders accountable as seriously and passionately as we take big brother,” she wrote on Twitter.

“I wish young people will give the same energy to register to vote when it is time. We have to do more to fight for our country.”

Lala Akindoju's comment comes days after the ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi, had called for the replacement of the reality TV show, saying it is a distraction to the youths.

Elebena Chukwu, a self-acclaimed Nigerian prophet, had earlier declared that he will shut down the ongoing BBNaija with his spiritual power if the federal government fails to do so.

Also, Charles Oputa, maverick entertainer and activist popularly known as Charlyboy, had described Nigerian youths who follow BBNaija as 'mumu' (senseless people).
