Yvonne Orji shares video of parents celebrating her first-ever Emmy nomination

Nigerian-American actress, Yvonne Orji, has shared a video of her parents celebrating her first-ever nomination for the 2020 Emmy Awards.

Nominations for the prestigious award were announced during a virtual ceremony on Tuesday.

The Hollywood star was enlisted for the ‘Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series’ category at the award billed for September 20.

Her nomination follows her role as Molly Carter in ‘Insecure’, a series produced by Home Box Office (HBO).

Shortly after news of the nominees broke, Yvonne called her parents to inform them of the development.

She had also informed them that Issa Rae, a fellow movie star, was nominated for the ‘Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series’ category.

“Mummy, daddy, l got a good news. I just got nominated for Emmy,” she had announced to them in a mixture of English and Igbo.

In the short clip, her excited parents could be heard lauding the actress for the feat. Her mother was also heard expressing optimism that the duo would win big at the forthcoming awards ceremony.

“I’m as sure you guys are going to win something. I am really happy for that team. We are proud of you,” her mother replied.

The actress, in a terse post accompanying the video, also expressed her excitement seeing her parents celebrating the feat.

“My heart is so full. Had to call the parentals… and they did not disappoint. They had jokes, prophesies and praises,” she wrote.

Yvonne was joined on the nominees list by Uzo Aduba and Jovan Adepo, two other movie stars of Nigerian descent.

While Aduba was nominated for her role in ‘Mrs America’, Adepo was selected for his role in ‘Watchmen.’
