Naya Rivera becomes third "Glee" star to 'die' in six years after she vanished on boat trip

Hollywood star Naya Rivera has been declared missing and presumed dead after a boat trip with her 4-year-old son in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

A searched for the "Glee" actress resumed Thursday after her son, Josey, was found alone on the boat on the water.

A witness told CBS News they saw the boy and his mother take the rental boat out onto Lake Piru, in Los Padres National Forest, late Wednesday afternoon.
About three hours after they set off, another boater reportedly spotted the boat drifting and then found the boy asleep on board.

Search and rescue crews were immediately dispatched, including divers and helicopters scanning the lake from above.

The young boy told police he and his mom had gone out to go swimming and the she "jumped into the water but didn't come back up", TMZ reports.
Naya's life jacket was reportedly still in the boat and Josey was asleep when the vessel was first found.

Josey is now with family members. The boy's father is actor Ryan Dorsey, who Naya divorced in 2018.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department began searching for a presumed drowning victim after responding to a report of a boy left alone on a boat at around 4.48pm, they said in a press release.

They later tweeted: "The missing person at Lake Puru has been identified as Naya Rivera, 33, of Los Angeles. SAR operation will continue at first light."
Distraught fans have been calling on the Sheriff's department to keep looking for Naya.

"Please don’t stop looking for her I beg you," pleaded one user while another said: "Y’all need to be out on boats with flashlights!"

Two of Rivera's co-stars from the hit musical series, Glee show about a high school glee club, which aired 113 from 2009 to 2015, have died.

Cory Monteith, who rose to fame on the hit Fox show, died of a drug overdose at the age of 31 in 2013.

In 2018, Mark Salling, known for his role as Puck on "Glee," died in Los Angeles at the age of 35. He was found dead while awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to possession of child pornography in 2017. Officials said no foul play was suspected in his death.

Salling and Rivera had dated previously but he was not the father of her son, whom the actress once called her "greatest success."

Naya's last Instagram post was shared two days ago. It's a photo of her and her son with the caption, "Just the two of us."
