Emma Nyra apologises after Nigerians knock her for 'supporting' Hushpuppi

Music artist, Emma Nyra has apologised after backlash over her tweet in which she aimed a dig at Nigerians who appeared to be happy about the downfall of alleged internet fraudster, Hushpuppi.

Hushpuppi, whose real name is Raymond Abbas, was recently apprehended in Dubai and extradited to the United States to face charges over cyber-fraud involving 1.9 million victims to the tune of N168 billion.

His arrest had set social media abuzz with many bashing him for painting the country in a bad light.

Weighing into the conversation, the actress and model, born Emma Chukwugoziam Obi, said a lot of people are happy about Hushpuppi’s downfall because he was fond of “oppressing them on social media”.

In a post on Twitter, the singer, however, said such excitement would not fetch those happy any fortune.

“A lot of people are happy about what happened to Hushpuppi because he was oppressing them on social media,” she wrote on Twitter.

“The truth is that rejoicing in his downfall is not gonna put money in your pocket. I’m tired of reading about someone else’s downfall. Let me jeje hustle my own.”
However, Nigerians descended on the singer, accusing her of supporting and encouraging the activities of fraudsters.

Following the knocks from Nigerians, Emma Nyra took down her tweet and apologised.

"I genuinely apologize if I offended anyone. I never meant to do that. I simply meant that I’m tired of reading about it. Justice will be served when it comes to his case and understand that I would never defend his actions at all. I actually never did," she wrote.
