Coronavirus: Alibaba founder Jack Ma donates masks, test kits, protective gears to Nigeria, Africa

Jack Ma, founder and executive chairman of Alibaba, has donated masks, test kits and protective suits to Nigeria, and all countries in Africa, to help the fight against coronavirus.

The medical items arrived Nigerian on Wednesday through the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.




The Chinese business tycoon and philanthropist in a statement on Twitter said that the Jack Ma Foundation and Alibaba foundation will donate to 54 African countries.

The items includes 20,000 test kits, 100,000 masks and 1,000 medical use protective suits and face shields, that is a total of 1.1 million testing kits, six million masks, and 60,000 protective suits and face shields.

They will also work with local medical institutions in Africa to provide online training material for coronavirus clinical treatments.

According to the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health, Abdulaziz Abdullahi, who received them at the airport, the 20,000 test kits will be distributed to the five laboratories in the country.

Lagos State has two laboratories while the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Osun State and Edo State each have one laboratory.

Ma, the Chinese billionaire had earlier announced the donation of 1.1 million testing kits and six million masks to fight coronavirus in Africa.
