Algeria becomes second African country with coronavirus case

Algeria has become the second African country to be hit by the coronavirus disease after Egypt.

Authorities at the North African country on Tuesday confirmed the case, with Al Araby reporting that an Italian man who entered the country on February 17 was diagnosed with it.

The Italian man has been quarantined, Algeria’s health minister, Shamsuddin Shitor, said.

Italy, which has the highest number of cases in Europe, appears to be a place from where the virus is spreading, with Croatia confirming a young man returning from the country as its first case.

The first case of the deadly coronavirus in Africa was confirmed in Egypt, although the carrier was later confirmed to test negative.

The virus, known as COVID_19, began in the Chinese city of Wuhan and has since spread across the world, killing 2,769 persons with 81,234 infected across 42 countries and territories.

Iran, South Korea and Italy has recorded the highest deaths outside China with 19, 12 and 11, respectively. China has so far recorded 2,715 deaths.

Fortunately, the number of people who have recovered from the virus has risen to 30,317, reducing the number infected patients to 48,148.
