Rockets fired at US military base in Iraq

Rockets have been fired at Iraq’s al Asad airbase, which hosts United States forces, Reuters is reporting.

According to Reuters, a U.S. official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said there were rocket attacks on multiple locations, including the airbase.

Sirens were heard as US helicopters flew over the airbase after a total alert was activated, according to local reports.

The official said there was no immediate information on any damage or casualties from the attack as tensions mount with Iran following a US drone strike on Friday that killed Iranian military commander Qassem Soleimani.

The White House says it is aware of the reports and US President Donald Trump has been briefed and is monitoring the situation.

Trump had previously threatened a possible "disproportionate response" on Iranian sites if it's forces attacked American assets.
