Oscar disqualifying 'Lionheart' is a blessing for Genevieve Nnaji - Reno Omokri

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) had on Monday disqualified Genevieve Nnaji’s ‘Lionheart’ for the 2020 Oscar Awards.

‘Lionheart’ is the first Nollywood film to be selected by the Nigerian Oscars Selection Committee (NOSC) and submitted to represent the country at the award event scheduled for February 9, 2020, in Los Angeles, United States.

The movie, which is partially in English and Igbo languages, was disqualified for violating an Academy rule that states that entries in the category must have “a predominantly non-English dialogue track.”

However, the reason given by Oscar Awards to disqualify the movie did not go down well with many including American filmmaker, Ava DuVernay, who questioned the decision.

Meanwhile, former presidential aide and activist, Reno Omokri, feels that 'Lionheart' not making it to the award ceremony is a blessing in disguise for Genevieve Nnaji, who directed the film.

Reacting to the disqualification, Omokri wrote:
"Many Americans and Westerners had not heard of @GenevieveNnaji’s movie, #LionHeart, until @TheAcademy Awards disqualified it. Now millions are searching for it on @NetflixUS.

"Sometimes, God uses a DISAPPOINTMENT to bless you!‬ What you need is PERSPECTIVE. Scripture says “we know that in ALL things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.”-Romans 8:28.

"Since man did not APPOINT you, man cannot DISAPPOINT you! What the enemy meant for EVIL, God will turn around for you GOOD!"
