Kogi Deputy Governor impeached by state house of assembly

Elder Simon Achuba, the Deputy Governor of Kogi state has been impeached.

He was impeached by the House of Assembly shortly after it received report of a judicial panel of enquiry set up by the Kogi State Chief Judge Justice Nasir Ajanah.

The seven-man panel of inquiry set up to investigate the allegation of gross misconduct leveled against the deputy governor submitted its report on Friday.

Speaking at the event, chairman of the panel, Barrister John Baiyeshea, said the committee members had done their best according to law and based on evidence presented before them.

Receiving the document, Speaker of Assembly, Kolawole Matthew said the lawmakers will go through the reports thoroughly and “do justice” to its recommendations.

The speaker lauded the committee for “doing its assignment without yielding to interference from any quarter”.

The house commenced impeachment proceedings against the deputy governor afterwards.

Bello Abdullahi, majority leader of the house, had read a petition against Achuba after which the lawmakers commenced impeachment proceedings.

Abdulahi, representing Ajaokuta state constituency, said Achuba was impeached after a careful consideration of the report submitted by the committee.

He said the report was received, studied and deliberated upon and a unanimous decision was arrived at to remove Achuba.

Achuba have been having running battle with the Kogi state governor, Yahaya Bello.
