Aisha Buhari speaks on rumours about President Buhari marrying Sadiya Farouq

First lady, Aisha Buhari has reacted to the rumour that her husband, President Muhammadu Buhari was planning to get married to another wife.

Last week, there were reports that President Buhari planning to marry Sadiya Umar Farouq, the minister of humanitarian affairs, while his wife was away in the United Kingdom.




The rumour was so strong that Friday, October 4, was picked a the day for the wedding ceremony that never happened.

In an interview with BBC Hausa on Sunday, Aisha said it was not her duty to confirm or deny the rumour.

Aisha, who returned to Nigeria on Sunday, said that the responsibility to confirm or deny the rumour was that of those involved in the matter.

Speaking in Hausa, she said: “He is the one they said is getting married not me so he is the one that should publicly deny it. The person they said he’s getting married to, didn’t deny it initially, she waited until the wedding didn’t hold on the said date before she publicly denied it.”

The reports had said that President Buhari was being pressured to marry Sadiya by the alleged cabal led by Mamman Daura, his nephew.

However, Daura's daughter, Fatima also denied the claims that her father is arranging the second marriage for Buhari.

In an interview with same BBC Hausa, Fatima said her father and Buhari are monogamists.

“Wallahi, it is a lie. It is all part of what I am saying about the false allegations against our father. He is not even aware of the rumours about the marriage issue because he doesn’t use the social media. They are both monogamous. Both my dad and the president practice monogamy. They are all lies aimed at blackmailing him. They keep falsely accusing him. It does not tally with reason,” she said.
