New Zealand bans foreigners from buying homes in their country

New Zealand Prime Minister-elect Jacinda Ardern announced on Tuesday a ban on foreigners buying existing homes would begin in early 2018, but the restrictions would not apply to Australians as they plan to make properties more affordable for their citizens.

Jacinda, 37, who was elected as part of a coalition government in September, said the new plan was designed to stop rising house prices and will apply to non-residents.

A Danish inventor, Peter Madsen, has admitted to dismembering the body of Swedish journalist Kim Wall, before throwing the body parts out to sea after she interviewed him on board his homemade submarine.

According to Guardian, Madsen, in his initial statement to the police, had said he dropped Wall off on land after he gave her an interview the previous day.

An arrest warrant for felony possession of a controlled substance has been issued for actress Rose McGowan, who is one of dozens of women who accused Harvey Weinstein of sexual misconduct.

The felony charge stems from a police investigation of personal belongings left behind on a United flight arriving at Washington Dulles International Airport on January 20.

The African Development Bank (AfDB) has called off a loan to Nigeria that would have helped fund the country’s budget.

It has instead redirected the money to specific projects, a vice president at the lender said yesterday, according to Reuters.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday asked the Federal High Court, Abuja, to set aside the subpoena ordering him to appear in court as a witness to testify in defence of a former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olisa Metuh.

Metuh had asked the court to allow him to call Jonathan as a witness in his case. Court then orders the former president to appear as a witness.

Impeach Buhari for delaying Babachir’s sack - PDP tells National Assembly

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked the National Assembly to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari over his delay in sacking Babachir Lawal and Ayo Oke.

Buhari had sacked both officials over corruption allegations against them after several months delay.

The PDP in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Prince Dayo Adeyeye said Buhari delayed the sack of the officials despite evidences.

American actor Kevin Spacey earlier today addressed allegations made by younger actor Anthony Rapp that the former sexually harassed him when he was 14 years old.

Rapp had alleged that Spacey who was then 26 had invited him over after they both performed together on Broadway and tried to have his way with him after everyone had left. He also stated that Spacey might have been under the influence of alcohol.

Official results on Monday showed that Kenyatta won 98.2 percent of the votes cast.

Kenyatta won 7,483,895 votes compared to 73,228 for his closest rival Raila Odinga, who had boycotted the vote.

House of Cards‘ actor, Kevin Spacey has identified as a gay man in response to a sexual harassment allegation raised against him by Star Trek: Discovery actor, Anthony Rapp.

In an interview with Buzzfeed, Rapp alleged that Spacey “invited him over to his apartment for a party, and, at the end of the night, picked him up, placed him on his bed, and climbed on top of him, making a sexual advance”. Rapp was only 14 at the time.

Former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Allison-Madueke on Monday asked the Federal High Court in Lagos to list her as a defendant in a N500m fraud charge involving a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Dele Belgore.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had charged Belgore together with a former Minister of National Planning, Prof. Abubakar Suleiman, on a five-count bordering on N500m fraud.
Diezani was named as an accomplice in the criminal trial and described at large.

Buhari sacks Babachir Lawal, Ayodele Oke; appoints Boss Mustapha as new SGF

President Muhammadu Buhari has sacked the suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal and Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Amb Ayodele Oke.

Buhari had suspended Lawal over alleged fraud in the North-East contracts. The President also suspended NIA DG, Ayo Oke over claims on $43m found in an apartment in Ikoyi.
