Loads of soldiers, air force officers storm forest at Benin-Agbor road to rescue Emefiele's wife

 
A combined team of soldiers, air force officers and mobile police said to be over 1,000 have stormed the forest at Benin-Agbor road where Margaret Emefiele, the wife of Central Bank of Nigeria governor, Godwin Emefiele was taken to after she was kidnapped yesterday.

Commissioners of Police of Edo state and Delta state were spotted at Ugoneki police station this evening where they are working with others to find the kidnapped woman.

World Heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury tests positive for cocaine!

 
The Gypsie King as he is fondly called by fans- Tyson Fury, the reigning WBA, WBO, IBO, Ring magazine, and lineal heavyweight champion has tested positive for cocaine according to reports, weeks after pulling out from his heavyweight title defence with Klitschko citing mental issues.

Fury, was said to have been informed on Thursday night that his A sample from a random urine test on 22 September had tested positive for the substance benzoylecgonine, the central compound found in cocaine. 


The Manchester born boxer who claims to be born again is set to lose his titles won in 2015. The presence of cocaine in his blood samples brings an all time low to Fury's career and could even bring about litigations and lawsuits against him and his camp.

In the book, Ifemelu had a blog called “Raceteenth or Various Observations About American Blacks (Those Formerly Known as Negroes) by a Non-­American Black,” and it was as funny as it was insightful.

Polish woman convicted of N9 million fraud in Nigeria

An FCT High Court in Abuja has fixed October 4 to sentence a Polish woman, Dora Gilmaska, convicted of N9 million  fraud.

This is contained in a statement by Wilson Uwujaren, the spokesman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) iin Abuja on Thursday.

Uwujaren said the convict was arraigned before Justice Abubakar Umar.

Supreme Court gives reasons for dismissing Faleke, Wada’s appeals

The Supreme Court has revealed its reasons for dismissing the appeals filed by Honourable James Faleke and former Kogi state governor Idris Wada.

Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun who read the lead judgment said Faleke’s appeal was an “aberration, not known to law’’.

“This is a simple law. Since the election, had not been completed and the final results issued by the electoral body, Faleke, as a running mate, cannot claim ‎victory in the election,’’ she said.

Swiss Parliament votes to ban Muslim women from wearing the Burka in public

 

The parliament in Switzerland has voted to ban the Muslim Burka from being worn in public.The National Council on Tuesday voted 88 votes in favour of the ban while 87 voted against with 10 abstentions.

Members voted in favour of a ruling that “no person shall cover his face in public places and in places or hide in the public domain or the provision of public services (excluding sacred sites).”

Fulani Herdsmen who kidnapped Catholic Priest in Enugu demand for N2.5 million ransom

 
Some Catholic priests were attacked by Fulani Herdsmen in Enugu State on Sept 26th.

According to reports, the priests Rev Fr Chetanna Jude Chukwuneke, Fr Emmanuel Dim and Fr Prof Ezeokana were in a car passing along Obimo in Uzo-Uwani when the suspected herdsmen emerged from a bush in a bad spot of the road, and attacked.

While Fr Chukwuenke and Fr Prof Ezeokana escaped, Fr Emmaniuel Dim was abducted. A 2.5 million Naira ransom has now been demanded before he is released.

National Assembly staff and security operatives today sealed off the office of sacked chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation, Abdulmumin Jibrin, who was suspended for 180 sitting days and also barred him from positions of authority in the House till the end of the 8th assembly.

Jibrin was suspended following his refusal to appear before the House of Representatives Committee on Ethics and privileges to address the allegations of budget padding he leveled against the Speaker and 13 other lawmakers.

APC’s Obaseki wins Edo governorship election with 319,483 votes


The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the Edo governorship election, Godwin Obaseki has emerged as winner in the polls.

Obaseki was announced winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) returning officer, Kayode Soremekun after polling a total votes of 319,483.

Nigerian man in the UK charged to court for causing death of his 9yr old daughter through dangerous driving

 
A 46 year old Nigerian man, Barnabas Chizoro Edohasim living in the UK has been charged to court for causing the death of his nine-year-old daughter, Olivia, by dangerous driving.
According to Manchester news, the deceased died after the Toyota Auris estate car her father was driving, collided with a wall in Manchester Road, Altrincham, on May 7th. 
She was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, while her injured 11-year-old sister was taken to hospital.

Two lifeless, six unconscious bodies discovered in a brothel in Umuahia, Abia state (photos)

Two persons were found dead and six unconscious under mysterious circumstances at a popular brothel known as 50-50 Bar, located at Uyo Street in Umuahia, the Abia State capital on Wednesday morning, September 28th. 

Six others, including the manager of the brothel were discovered unconscious and taken to the hospital where they are battling for their lives.

The brothel is said to be home to over 50 sex workers.

White College student arrested for wearing gorilla mask, trying to give out bananas to #BlackLivesMatter protesters


A White Tennessee college Year one student known as Tristan Rettke has been arrested by police after he wore a gorilla mask, carried rope and tried to give out bananas during a Black Lives Matter protest on Wednesday.

A video published by The Johnson City Press show Tristan wearing overalls, holding a burlap sack with a marijuana leaf and Confederate flag on it while also dangling a banana with a rope towards the Black Lives Matter protesters.

Niger state High Court sentence woman to 2 years in prison for exploiting 12-year-old child

 
Federal High court sitting in Minna, Niger State, on Tuesday, September 27th, sentenced one Glory Abang to 2 years imprisonment for engaging a 12 year old child in activities that were exploitative, injurious or hazardous to her physical, social and psychological development.

Mrs Abang, mother of three, residing at Chief Palace, Goram, Niger State was arrested by officers of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in July 2015.

Actor Kalu Ikeagwu blasts the Police, media, bloggers following his arrest/abduction saga

Nollywood actor Kalu Ikeagwu is speaking out following his arrest/abduction. 

The movie star is unhappy with the way the Nigerian Police Force handled the situation and he is also not pleased with the media for the way the story was reported.

According to him, he was not arrested but rather abducted by five men.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and candidate in the Edo election, Pastor Ize-Iyamu have rejected the results announced so far by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The PDP said the results were written by the electoral body in connivance with the All Progressives Congress (APC).

On his part Ize-Iyamu said the results announced by INEC was in contradiction to the massive turn out of Edo people for the polls.

Indian arrested for allegedly assaulting domestic staff in Lagos


The Lagos State Police Command has arrested an Indian, Jay Keswani, for allegedly assaulting his wife’s domestic staff, Faith Nwaneri, in the Banana Island, Ikoyi area of the state, PUNCH reports.

Keswani was arrested on Tuesday by police officers from the Adeniji Adele Division after he had allegedly evaded arrest for six weeks.

According to Faith’s elder brother, Chukwuka, Faith was late to work on August 12 because the security men delayed to give her a pass.

Two days ago, there were reports about Nollywood actor Kalu Ikeagwu’s arrest and subsequent release by the Nigerian Police over a robbery/murder case involving his Personal Assistant.

This personal assistant had unknowingly bought a stolen phone from Computer Village in Ikeja. The people who stole the phone had reportedly killed one of the victims of the robbery and the case was under investigation.

In an interview with Sahara Weekly, he narrates the ordeal he and his family went through in the hands of the Nigerian Police Force.

Kings College shut down over unpaid salaries

Teachers of King’s College (KC), Lagos have shut down academic activities in the school following an indefinite strike over alleged non-payment of salary, The Nation reports.

A notice pasted on the school gate reads: “Strike ongoing. Academic activities grounded in King’s College; five months salaries unpaid. Staff are dying.”

One of the teachers Muhammed Isa said they took the action because the Federal government is owing them for five months.

Dangote truck carrying Indian hemp intercepted by Police

 

A truck, belonging to the Dangote Group of Companies was intercepted by the Kebbi State Police Command, ThisDay reports.

176 sacks of 50kg of suspected Indian hemp was found in the truck with the registration number: Kano SML 124 XA.

The commissioner of police in the state, Kabiru Ibrahim said the lone suspect, one Aliyu Sani was apprehended at Koko area of the state.

Blackberry stops designing its own phones, switches to software development

 
Tech company, Blackberry is to stop designing smartphones in-house after 14 years, the company has announced.

Once a market leader, the company has struggled to keep pace with modern handsets produced by rivals such as Apple and Samsung.

The company in a statement by its CEO, John Chen, said it would outsource hardware production to its partners.
