Buhari meets South-East APC leaders (Photos)

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday met separately with some South-East chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and six states’ governors in the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the two meetings were held behind closed doors.

NAN reports that the president first met with the governors of Zamfara, Akwa Ibom, Edo, Katsina, Ondo and Imo before meeting with the South East politicians led by former Senate President, Ken Nnamani.

‎The 18-member delegation, under the aegis of South East Group for Change, comprised mainly members of the ruling APC.

Immigration boss orders arrest of ex-governors, ministers, others with diplomatic/official passport

Newly appointed Comptroller General of Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Mohammad Babandede, has ordered the immediate arrest of former political office holders including governors, ministers, senators and retired public servants who are still in possession of Official/Diplomatic passports. 

Babandede gave the order while addressing senior officers of the Service at the Service headquarters in Abuja today May 31st.

Senator T.A Orji calls for the establishment of Chartered Institute of Politicians | Nigerians react

During the Nigerian Senate Plenary today, former Abia state governor and now Senator representing Abia Central Senatorial District, Theodore Orji, has called on his colleagues to push for a bill for the establishment of the Chartered Institute of Politicians.

He made the call when the senate members were deliberating the bill for the establishment of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants of Nigeria today May 31st.

Although it was probably a joke, considering the more pressing issues the country is facing at the moment, Nigerian twitter users were not ready to tolerate such and began to respond angrily to the statement.

Wizkid's ex-manager, Osagie Osarenkhoe, also known as This Metal Chic, has been accused of fraud by Baseline Records, home to Skales and Aramide.
Osagie, currently managing Skales, has been accused by the record label of stealing the sum of N13,374,000 in the past 12 months. The record label has released a length petition addressed to the Inspector General of Police and right now Osagie is at the Police Station as they try to sort things out.

Major Hamza Al-Mustapha who was the Chief Security Officer (CSO) to late General Sani Abacha, has said that Abacha did not loot the nation’s treasury but only lodged the said amounts outside the country so that Nigeria will have funds if the international community imposed sanctions on the country.

According to Hamza, there were “force” from the international community and within Nigeria that were enemies of the late Head of State who were ben on removing him from office.

Soldiers, policemen clash in banking hall

A fight between a soldier and four mobile policemen on Tuesday morning caused commotion at a branch of Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) in Cross River state.

Though the cause of the fight is still unknown, things got heated to the extent that a canister of tear gas had to be shot inside the banking hall, causing a pandemonium as customers cringed and made way out of the building due to the burning sensation.

Biafran Day deaths: Ekweremadu urges security agencies to be cautious when handling protest

Following the violent clash between pro-Biafran activitists and security forces on Monday, the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, on Tuesday, urged security agencies to be cautious when handling protest and civil disturbances to avoid needless loss of lives.

Ekweremadu, who noted that the clash caused a wanton loss of live that could have been avoided if handled differently, said this while speaking at the Senate.

“I will like to use this opportunity under Order 43 to say that the security agencies must apply caution in trying to quell disturbances.”

Former Super Eagles Captain, Joseph Yobo, has been appointed as the Senior Special Assistant on Sports Development to Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike.

FG deploys 5 warships, 100 gunboats, fighter jets to Delta creeks

The federal government, yesterday, deployed an armada of five warships, 100 gunboats and fighter jets to the creeks of the Niger Delta, in response to continued bombing of oil and gas pipelines by Niger Delta Avengers, NDA, Vanguard reports.

This heightened tension in the coastal communities of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, even as helicopter gunships were seen hovering at low altitude in the predominantly riverine council.

Vanguard report that while the Airforce deployed the fighter jets and helicopter gunships, the Army swooped on four more Ijaw communities in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South West Local Government Area, Delta State, for the militants.

Senator Ben Bruce who caught wind that the dapper, windscreen cleaner Abdulahi was at the STV studio for an interview, came out of his Silverbird Galleria office and asked: “Where is the man that wears suit to clean car windscreens?”

Nigerian woman’s kidney illegally removed by doctors in Italy (Graphic image)

The Chairperson of the House of Representatives Committee on Diaspora Affairs, Rita Orji, has brought to the public the case of a Nigerian woman said to be in her 30s named Julie Osamese, whose kidney was allegedly harvested by some doctors in Italy. 
According to The Sun, Julie, a mother of one, who is a legal immigrant in Italy, had gone to the Ospedale Maria Vittoria Cibrario Hospital in Turin, Italy sometime in November 2008 to complain about her poor health.

 At the time, she had a bit of fever and was given some drugs and asked to come back for revaluation one week later. Julie returned to the hospital one week later and the doctors allegedly gave her drugs which made her dizzy. It was gathered that as she complained to the doctors who attended to her, she was tied to the bed despite her protest. By the time she woke up, part of her buttocks had allegedly been chopped off, and her kidney tampered with. That was how she lost control of her bladder, leading to uncontrollable urination.

'What killed Abacha is what killed MKO Abiola, I will reveal details soon' - Al Mustapha

Former Chief Security Officer to late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, on Sunday, May 30th, said he would soon reveal how his former boss and the acclaimed winner of June 12, 1993 presidential election, Chief MKO Abiola, died.

Speaking at a press briefing in Lagos, Al-Mustapha alleged that Abacha and Abiola’s deaths were from same source.

According to him, he would be telling all he knows about the death of the two famous Nigerians in his new book, Mustapha’s Memoirs, which he is still writing and would soon publish.

Pro-Biafrans from all over the world celebrated the fallen heroes and heroines of Biafra on Monday, May 30, and also used the opportunity to call for secession from Nigeria.

While the rally in Nigeria turned bloody, there were peaceful rallies in other parts of the world.

How Jonathan called me to concede defeat – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has for the first time, shared a vivid description of how former President Goodluck Jonathan conceded defeat to him in the March 28, 2015 presidential elections.

While hosting State House Correspondents to a luncheon at the New Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa on Monday, Buhari said he was shocked that Jonathan could call him and easily concede that the election was lost.

Plateau state government traces 1,832 ghost teachers to one individual

A staff verification exercise in Plateau State has traced 1,832 ghost teachers to a single individual who is not even a teacher. 

According to Daily Trust, the state‎ governor, Simon Lalong disclosed this at a media parley at the Government House in Jos to mark his one year in office over the weekend.

He also said a self-confessed man who has lived in the United States of America (USA) for years, admitted to him on phone that he had been drawing salaries for himself and for many more ghosts workers to fund charity for widows and orphans.

MASSOB distances itself from Onitsha and Asaba clashes

The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has said that they are not part of the Biafran anniversary celebrations that led to a bloody clash between soldiers and pro-Biafran activists.

In a telephone interview with PUNCH, MASSOB leader Uchenna Madu, said: “We’re not involved in the protest that paralysed commercial activities in the area.”

Madu, however, accused security operatives of killing innocent and unarmed Nigerians.

Pro-Biafran Rally: 7 confirmed dead, several people injured, about 38 arrested

No fewer than seven persons have been confirmed dead following protest by members of pro-Biafran groups in the South East and South South..

The Acting Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), in Delta, SP Charles Mouka, who confirmed this in a statement, added that the police recorded two casualties.

The Police statement said that five members of MASSOB were killed by military officers who had confrontations with the group along the Asaba-Onitsha Expressway in Asaba.

Soldiers invade Tompolo’s father’s house in Delta

Soldiers suspected to be operatives of the Joint Task Force have invaded the home of the father of wanted ex-militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo alias Tompolo, carting away what sources said were vital documents.

 It was gathered that the incident happened between the hours of 5am and 8am at Kurutie.

The soldier later moved to other communities in search of the ex-militant and youths alleged to be members of the Niger Delta Avengers.
