Boko Haram destroys Nigerian military base

Boko Haram destroyed a Nigerian military base as soldiers fled and only self-defense fighters prevented the insurgents from retaking a town in Adamawa state, residents said Monday.

The civilian fighters held Gulak town after soldiers ran away Sunday night until the military sent reinforcements who fought off the extremists, former council chairman James Ularamu told The Associated Press.

The military base was burned down, said Ularamu.

Former minister of finance, Bashir Yuguda arrested by EFCC

 
 A former Minister of State for Finance, Bashir Yuguda, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged arms procurement deals during the last administration.

Yuguda was reportedly arrested alongside other top officials from the office of the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki.

According to Premium Times, Yuguda was arrested Monday afternoon and was interrogated by detectives.

‘I’m governor-elect, I won’t be Bello’s running mate’ - Faleke pulls out of Kogi supplementary election

 
James Faleke, the running mate of the deceased Audu Abubakar, in the November 21 Kogi governorship election, has rejected the opportunity to serve as running mate to Yahaya Bello, for the supplementary election of December 5.

Shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission declared the governorship election as inconclusive, the death of Audu was announced, hence creating a vacuum.

After series of speculation regarding who will emerge the representative of the APC at the supplementary election, the party on Monday, November 30, announced Bello as the candidate and Faleke as his running mate.

APC officially selects Bello as replacement for Audu Abubakar

 
The All Progressives Congress has officially presented Alhaji Yahaya Bello as its replacement for the late Prince Abubakar Audu in Saturday’s supplementary election.

The announcement was made on Monday, at the National Secretariat of the APC, in Abuja.

The National Working Committee of the ruling party opted for Bello, who was the runner-up to Audu in the APC governorship primaries.

Pope Francis visits mosque in Central African Republic (Photos)

 
Pope Francis this morning visited a mosque at the Central African Republic, the last country he will be visiting in Africa. Pope Francis met with Muslim leaders and Muslim faithfuls at the central Koudoukou mosque in the PK5 district, the last Muslim enclave in Bangui. He rode his motorcade with some Muslim leaders as he made his way to the mosque.

“Christians and Muslims are brothers and sisters. Together, we must say no to hatred, to revenge and to violence, particularly that violence which is perpetrated in the name of a religion or of God himself,” he said to his mostly-Muslim audience who were sitting on the floor, listening quietly.

Nigerian 'Preacher' in US arrested after being accused of beating, robbing and raping escorts he met online


 
US based Nigerian man who claimed to be a preacher has been arrested after being accused of beating, robbing and raping escorts in hotels across Washington DC.

Gabriel Omogbo of Hyattsville, Maryland, is charged with attempted first degree murder, armed robbery, first degree assault and reckless endangerment.


Police believe that the 33-year-old used the website Backpage.com to find female escorts & arranged to meet up with them.

Bayelsa Police reacts alleged attack on ex-president Jonathan

The Bayelsa State Police Command on Monday, November 30, disclosed that former President Goodluck Jonathan was not attacked in the state.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO), Butswat Asinim, who spoke to The Nation, blamed the rumor of the attack on mischievous rumour peddlers.

Asinim said that a band of vexed youths wrongly thought the Jonathan’s convoy was one of the governorship candidates’ in the state and followed the convoy, only to discover that the convoy belonged to the ex-president.

The Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) has announced the top 3 contenders for football’s individual top prize, the FIFA Ballon d’Or Award.

Suspected assassins arrested after they trailed former President Jonathan's convoy to his home in Bayelsa (Photos)

 
Men suspected to be assassins has been arrested after they intercepted and drove into a short motorcade conveying  former President Goodluck Jonathan from the Julius Berger bridge area of the state capital Yenagoa, earlier today.

According to a report on Leadership and other media platforms, the militants trailed and chased Jonathan convoy to the entrance of his Yenagoa private residence in the Kpansia area of the town, before they were overpowered and arrested by a combined team of security operatives attached to the former President.

Members of the arrested gang have been taken to the Bayelsa State Police Command for further investigation and interrogation.

Violence in APC headquarters Abuja over Kogi election (Photos)

 
Violence erupted outside the APC headquarters in Abuja this afternoon over the inconclusive election in Kogi state. 

Some thugs numbering over a thousand attempted to attack the party's choice in the December 5th supplementary election, Yahaya Bello as he arrived the secretariat this afternoon to attend a meeting with top party leaders.

The thugs engaged the supporters of Yahaya in a free for all fight, using all the available weapons to attack each others...

Police and other security agents had to initially run for their lives before coming back to restore order..

James Faleke chooses Abubakar Audu’s son as running mate

 
James Faleke, running mate to projected winner of Kogi State governorship elections late Abubakar Audu, has picked Audu’s son, Mohammed Audu, as his new running mate.

Audu and Faleke were in the lead in the initial polls before the former’s death and the election declared inconclusive on November 22.

Mohammed was initially chosen to take his father’s place but was replaced with Yahaya Bello at the last minute.

17 year old Pastor’s son allegedly rapes and murders 14 year old girl in Delta

 The 17-year-old son of a Delta based-pastor has allegedly raped and killed a 14-year-old girl.

According to Vanguard, the accused also attempted to harm the victim’s 9-year-old sister. However, she managed to escape althoug he injured her.

The incident is said to have occurred at Oduduru Road, Sapele.

EFCC reportedly arrest Dasuki's top staff and 20 others

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) has arrested top-ranking officials of the Office of the National Security Adviser who worked under Sambo Dasuki.

The arrests are undoubtedly connected to the ongoing investigation of a $2 billion weapons contract scandal which recently 'indicted' the retired Army Colonel.

Among those reportedly arrested are Shuaibu Salisu, who was Dasuki’s Director of Finance, a member of the National intelligence Agency (NIA), Aminu Baba Kusa, and a former General Executive Director at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mohammed Baba-Kusa.

T.B Joshua fails to honour court invite, case adjourned till December 11th

 
The hearing on the suit against Synagogue Pastor, T.B Joshua and his engineers over the September 2014 church building collapse has been adjourned to December 11th by Justice Lawal Akapo of the Lagos State High Court.

The resumed hearing of the case was meant to take place this morning but T.B. Joshua and his engineers, Oladele Ogundeji and Akinbela Fatiregun failed to appear in court.

7 Female students die in Kano school dormitory fire incident

 
Seven female students have been confirmed dead after a fire engulfed their dormitory inside their boarding school in Jogana village, Kano yesterday night. Eyewitnesses say the fire started at about 9pm when most of the students had gone to bed.

As many as 25 of them sustained injury as they tried to flee the scene of the fire through the only two exits made available. The cause of the fire has not yet been ascertained.

Pope Francis meets with the IDPs in Central African Republic

 
On Sunday, the Pontiff visited a refugee camp in central Bangui in the Catholic parish of Saint Saviour, where he met with some of 447k displaced by sectarian crisis.
Over 6,000 people have been killed since 2013 and close to 450,000 remain internally displaced by recent violence. Pope Francis urged world leaders to ensure peace return to Central African Republic and for evangelical leaders to use their calling to preach hope and unity.

Yahaya Bello ‘worked for PDP’ after losing APC primaries – James Faleke

The running mate of the late Audu Abubakar, James Faleke maintains that he’s the governor-elect of Kogi state, while stating that his competitor, Yahaya Bello, worked against the All Progressives Congress, in the governorship election.

Hence, Faleke expressed his opposition to the December 5 supplementary election and the decision of Kogi APC to pick Bello as the replacement for Audu.

Faleke also denied that he was contacted by the party over the recent developments, adding that he had written a protest-letter to the National Chairman of the party, John Odigie-Oyegun, regarding the nomination of Bello.

Man who sells bars of soap as phones arrested in Lagos

54-year-old Michael Bisa has been arrested for allegedly selling fake phones to customers in Oshodi on Saturday at about 5pm.

Bisa disguised the phones as bars of soap and sold to his customers.
In his defense, the father of four said it was poverty that drove him to sell bars of soap as mobile phones.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo to FG: “Nnamdi Kanu should be released urgently”

The apex Igbo organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has called on the Federal Government to urgently release Nnamdi Kanu, the Director of Radio Biafra.

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, has been in the detention of the Department of State Security, since his arrest in October.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo arrived at the decision to demand for his release, on Sunday, after an Imeobi (highest decision organ) meeting in Enugu.

T.B. Joshua to be arraigned today over death of 116 persons in church building collapse

 
Pastor T.B Joshua along with some engineers will be arraigned today, November 30th, before a Lagos State High Court in Ikeja over the death of 116 people in the Synagogue Church of all Nations building collapse which occurred in September 2014.

Joshua and his engineers are expected to be arraigned before Justice Lawal Akapo according to a statement by the Deputy Director, Public Affairs of the Lagos State Ministry of Justice, Bola Akingbade.

Large number of teenage girls abducted as Boko Haram attacks another Borno village

A ‘large’ number of teenage girls have been abducted from Bam village, in Biu Local Government of Borno state.

Leadership reports that not less than seven people were killed, including a soldier when the insurgents attacked Bam in the wee hours of Sunday, November 29.

The insurgents were said to have moved into the village around 3.30am, while most residents were deep in slumber.

Several houses were set on fire during the attack while many children and women got injured in the process.
