Prince William & Kate Middleton celebrate 4th wedding anniversary

Yesterday, Wednesday, April 29, Kate Middleton, 33, and her Husband Prince William, 32, left their Kensington Palace home around 11 a.m and headed towards Buckhiham palace to celebrate their wedding anniversary. The royals celebrated their 4th wedding anniversary on the low-key day, marking the moment that they said "I do" privately.

The couple got married on April 29, 2011, in a festive ceremony at Westminster Abbey.

Belgian footballer dies after collapsing during a match

24 year old Belgian footballer Gregory Mertens died today April 30th in the hospital, three days after he collapsed during a match. Doctors said he died of heart failure.

The former Belgium Under-21 international fell during the first half of a match on Monday April 27th. He was first treated on the pitch but when they realized it was serious, he was rushed to the hospital where he was placed on life support. His condition didn't improve and today his family agreed his life support should be switched off. He passed away around 4pm today.
"Gregory was only one-and-a-half years at the club, but in that short time his quiet modesty made him an indispensable person. Now we will have to learn to live with the loss." his club said in a statement. May his soul rest in peace, amen.

3 Children in Ikorodu Injured in Monkey Attacks

Three children who suffered serious injuries following an unexpected attack by a monkey in Illado, Ikorodu, Lagos, are receiving treatment at the Shallom Hospital in the area, the Police in Lagos said on Thursday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the children, attacked on Tuesday, are eight-year-old girl, Funmilayo Gbadegeshin, and her two siblings Roda and Emmanuel Alombo.

Eyewitnesses told NAN that the monkey is owned by one Mrs Daniel, popularly known as “Iya Ibeji’ who also resides in Illado also.

Andrew Chan is one of the 8 people executed in Indonesia two days ago. He was known as the Bali 9 ringleader. Before he was executed by a firing squad, Andrew wrote haunting letter to schoolchildren around the world where he revealed how he became addicted to drugs at age 15 and warns teens not to follow his footsteps. The letter was read out by Chan himself from inside his Indonesian prison cell, as part of a documentary made available to schools. After introducing himself, the Australian said;

President Zuma calls President Jonathan over xenophobic attacks

President Zuma of South Africa has reportedly put a call across to President Jonathan to express his sadness over the recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa. He appealed to President Jonathan not to allow the incident affect the bilateral relationship between the two countries.

South African police arrested 198 illegal immigrants in a raid in Johannesburg on Thursday, officials said, after a spate of xenophobic attacks that has thrust millions of foreign workers into the spotlight. Local mobs have targeted immigrant workers from Zimbabwe, Malawi and other African countries in unrest that left at least seven people dead in the past month.

Lagos government shuts 24 religious buildings over noise pollution

Lagos state government says in the last one year it has shut down 24 religious buildings in the state following complaints of noise pollution they produce in areas where they are situated as well as their non adherence to the state guidelines on noise pollution.

10 militants jailed for life for attempting to kill Malala Yousafzai

Ten men who attempted to kill Nobel-prize winning teenage activist Malala Yousafzai in 2012,were on Thursday sentenced  to life imprisonment by a court n Pakistan..The leader of the group is still on the run.

In October 2012,Pakistani Taliban militants boarded the then 15 year old teenager's school bus and shot her in the head for advocating for female rights to education.. Two of her friends were also wounded in the attack which shocked the world.

Husband tells wife to refund N1.4m he spent on marriage expenses

A middle-aged-man, Collins Nduka, on Thursday pleaded with an Ojo Customary Court in Lagos State to order his wife, Sefinat Nduka, to refund N1.4 million he spent in marrying her.

Collins told the court that his wife, whom he married three years ago, had decided to abandon her matrimonial home for more than a year.

Nepal Earthquake: Teenager pulled from rubble alive after 5 days

15 year old Pemba was pulled out alive after five days under the rubble. He was in a guest house that collapsed during the earthquake in Nepal.

He said he drank water dripping from wet clothes to survive and prayed for people to find him. There were still people shouting from under the rubble where Pemba was found but rescue workers have not been able to get to them. See another pic below..

31 Year Old Lagos Man Arrested for Alleged Sodomy

A 31-year-old man, Samson Ndubuisi, who allegedly had carnal knowledge of an 11-year-old boy, was on Wednesday hauled up before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

Ndubuisi is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and sexual assault by penetration.

The Prosecutor, Soji Ojaokomo told the court that the accused committed the offences on April 12 at his apartment.

Ojaokomo said the accused had carnal knowledge of boy without his consent.

Urhobo Militant Group Blows Up Gas Trunklines in Delta State

Urhobo militant group, Urhobo Gbagbako, on Wednesday claimed responsibility for two explosions that occurred at two major gas trunklines in Delta State.

Vanguard reports that the trunklines belong to the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC), located on the boundaries of Afiesere and Ekredjebo communities and Otedo and Edjovwe communities both in Ughelli North and Ughelli South Local Government Areas of Delta State.

Justin Bieber triggers international incident

Justin Bieber got in hot water yesterday while in Rome to shoot "Zoolander 2. He is wanted in Argentina in connection to not showing up to face charges that he allegedly got his bodyguards to beat up an Argentine photographer in 2013 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Several police officers were rumored to have showed up outside his hotel in Rome, fortunately for him, no arrest was made. Bieber is said to be on an Interpol list because of the outstanding warrant in Argentina in 2013.

Justin had to go through secondary search at Customs when he flew into Italy because Argentina had contacted Interpol and put him on the list.

Michael Igbinedion and accomplice convicted of N25billion scam

A Federal high court sitting in Benin city, Edo state convicted Michael Igbinedion, the younger brother of former Edo state governor, Lucky Igbinedion and one Charles Eboigbodin over a N25bn money laundering scam yesterday April 29th.

The duo and their firms: Gava Corporation Limited; Romrig Nigeria Limited; PML Securities Company Limited and PML Nigeria Limited, were dragged before the court by EFCC over an 81-count charge of alleged money laundering, misappropriation of funds and abuse of office.

Governor Ayo Fayose withdraws lawsuit against APC lawmakers

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, yesterday withdrew the suit against the 19 All Progressives Congress (APC) members of the state House of Assembly from impeaching him and his Deputy, Kolapo Olusola.

In the suit, the plaintiffs, including speaker of the House of As­sembly which is oc­cupied by the Peoples Demo­cratic Party (PDP) factional Speaker, Olugbemi Joseph Dele; Ekiti State House of Assembly, Fayose and Olusola through their counsel, Ahmed Raji (SAN), had approached the court seeking to stop im­peachment moves against the governor. The suit however had already been struck out by Justice Ahmed Moham­med.

When the matter was called for hearing yesterday, counsel to the plaintiffs, Raji, informed the court of his client’s inten­tion to withdraw the case. The plaintiff’s counsel did not give any reason for the with­drawal.

293 rescued females undergo HIV and pregnancy test

The Nigerian military has moved the 293 females they rescued two days ago from Sambisa Forest to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital where they are to undergo series of test including HIV and pregnancy test.

According to a military source who spoke to Punch, 7 of the girls rescued had gunshot wounds and are being treated at the hospital. The 200 girls rescued are of between ages 13 and 18 years.

We believe our missing girls will come home eventually, says Chibok community

Members of the Chibok com­munity in Borno State have not yet seen any of their 219 schoolgirls abducted over a year ago by Boko Haram insurgents in the Northeast of the much beleaguered state.

However, they insist that they have high hopes that their missing daughters would soon walk home. Tuesday’s res­cue of 200 girls and 93 women that was announced by the authorities has raised their hopes that things might soon turn around for good for them, and their daughters would eventually be rescued.

The Nigerian military high command on Tuesday announced that troops had rescued some 200 girls and 93 women during a counter-insurgency operation near Sambisa Games Reserve where the Boko Haram insurgents have their camps.

FG sacks Director of FAAN over appointment irregularities and unapproved waivers

The Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka has sacked the Director of finance of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mr Tochukwu Bede Uchendu, over allegations of irregularities associated with his appointment into office as well as granting unapproved waivers worth N1 billion.

Mr Uchendu's sack was effected following a petition by the Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) and the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) dated March 23rd and addressed to the office of the Head of Service.

Comedian, Talk Show host and TV producer Teju Babyface's wife, Tobi Oyelakin, was on her way to the mainland at about 8pm last night when her car was attacked by hoodlums on Eko Bridge. She was in the car with her driver and 3 other girls in the back seat and were approaching the National Theater area of the Eko bridge when they encountered some traffic.

They had barely come to a stop when 4 boys leaped out of the shadows and knocked on the windows with torch lights and asked them to roll down the windows. They were still trying to come to terms with rising levels of panic when the hoodlums shattered the rear windows on both sides of the car and proceeded to rough-handle the ladies in the back seat and collect all valuables.

#Xenophobia: South African women narrate discrimination they face for marrying Nigerian men

South African women married to Nigerian men have narrated the discrimination they face for marrying men outside their country. Seeing the disaffection their kinsmen show them after finding love in the hands of Nigerian men, the women decided to form an association, the United Nigerian Wives in South Africa (UNWISA) club about two years ago where they give support and succor to each other.
42 year old Lindwela Uche who serves as the chairwoman of the group told AFP that they saw the xenophobic attacks coming and alerted their husbands but they did not take their warning seriously "We saw this thing coming and that’s why we formed this association. If only they (the authorities) had listened to us… they would have known that there’s a fire burning slowly and they would have seen how to tackle it.”she said

160 more rescued from Sambisa Forest

According to AFP, the Nigerian Army says it has rescued about 160 more hostages from Sambisa Forest.
"We are still trying to compute the actual number of those rescued. But tentatively there are about 60 women of various ages and around 100 children," Army spokesman Sani Usman told AFP.
He also said one woman was killed in the fighting and eight other rescued hostages were injured. A soldier was also killed and four others wounded.
